I bought from your website a 300 ml jar of yellow ochre. How many square metres can I cover with that?
| |
It depends on the paint, so you need to read the information about coverage on your paint can. Assuming that one litre of paint will cover ten square metres, you can add a maximum of one part ochre to five parts paint.

What are the differences between ‘pastels’, oxide and ochre?
| |
Oxides are pigments produced by the oxidation of metal. Ochres are natural pigments. Pastels are chiefly natural pigments, but in fact the name pastel is used to describe any delicate shade obtained by mixing oxide and /or natural pigment.

Can I use ochre as a cosmetic?
| |
Yes you can use it directly on your face or body, but avoiding the eyelids because they are particularly sensitive.

Can I mix a yellow ochre with a red ochre?
| |
You can mix red and yellow to obtain shades of orange. In fact any of the colours we offer can be mixed together as you wish.

Ochre is not suitable to eat, not even for colouring food.

I would like to use ochre to obtain an off- white, natural stone colour. Is this possible ? If so, which colour is the best for this?

You can add the shade ‘natural sienna’ to a white medium such as plaster, paint, or lime. Be careful, though, not to use a transparent medium such as caparol, acrylic gel or linseed oil, because the result would be closer to the full ‘natural sienna’ colour shown on the paint chart, rather than the off-white you want.

A friend advised me to dry my whitewash with a hairdryer. What do you think about this? I have used whitewash on plaster board, but it’s not adhering well. Why not? I’m an art teacher in a school and I would like my students to paint with ochre . Is there a special technique? How many kilos of pigments should I add to a lime/sand mix for the facade of my house? I’d like to know if I can apply your wax over an acrylic gel. If so, what is the coverage, please?

It is inadvisable to dry whitewash with a hairdryer or by any other artificial means. If the drying process is unnaturally speeded up (or slowed down) the colour may be changed or traces of a white residue (carbonyl) may be left on the dry surface.

I have used whitewash on plaster board, but it’s not adhering well. Why not?
| |
Plaster board should first be primed with a base coat of paint, followed by a coat of “ Unifond”. After this preparation, your whitewash will adhere properly. However, on plaster, you can omit the primer stage and just use the Unifond before the whitewash.

I’m an art teacher in a school and I would like my students to paint with ochre . Is there a special technique?

Painting with ochre is great fun . There is no special technique, but if you would like some ideas to start you off look at the suggestions on this website.

How many kilos of pigments should I add to a lime/sand mix for the facade of my house?
| |
You can incorporate between 1% and 15% of pigment to lime. For example: a kilo of pigment can be added to 10 kilos of lime. Only add the sand after the lime and pigment are well mixed.

I’d like to know if I can apply your wax over an acrylic gel. If so, what is the coverage, please?
| |
Yes, our wax can be applied over acrylic gel, either simply to add a shiny finish or to alter the colour of the wall. Just colour the wax with between 10% and 15% of pigment. With one kilo of wax the coverage should be 18 m².
If you use wax in order to change the colour, remember that the result will depend on the colour of the wall before the wax is added. For example, red wax on a white acrylic surface produces a red finish, but red wax on a yellow acrylic surface will probably turn the wall orange.
