Applying ochre

  Applying render :

To obtain the colour you want by adding ochre to mortar: a maximum of 10% ochre can be added to the base (eg cement or lime). This preparation is then mixed in with sand.

Gobetis : it is a coat prepared in the following way:  2 volumes of sand + from 1 to 2 volumes of lime (according to the solidity of the support) + water The gobetis applies rather liquid, without thickness.

Corps d'enduit : put it after the break of the gobetis with the consistency of a heavy cream · from 2.5 to 4 volumes of sand + 1 volume of lime + water

Enduit de finition: as its name indicates it, it is the last coat. The finish can be cuffed or smoothed. from 1 to 3 volumes of sand + 1 volume of lime + pigments + water. (Add so necessary additive).
The total thickness of three coats(layers) is generally 2 cms. On no account, it does not make 5 cms in thickness. (Risk of cracks)

The "Société des Ocres de France" markets fillers of finish in the aerial lime, colored and ready-to-use "SOFODOR or SOFOLITH" - 42 available tints. Inform you with the secretariat (phone:00.33(0)490.746.382)

The Société des Ocres de France also sells a ready-mixed white or coloured whitewash (see ‘The Shop') and you can easily add more ochre to these mixes if you wish, to obtain the colour of your choice.

Gel for application with rags or sponges :

This gel is a colourless base which you tint to the shade you want. All you have to do is put some ochre in a bowl and stir in a little water. You then stir this mixture into the gel to obtain a smooth, consistent paste. The gel is applied to a surface that has already been painted with a lime-wash.

Between 10 and150 grams of ochre can be added to 2.5 litres of gel.

In a glass container, mix one part arabic gum with two parts hot water (or alternatively heat the mixture in a bain-marie). Then mix in a preservative (some drops of oil of cloves) and finally add the pigment or pigments of your choice.
