Brun de Cassel d'Italie is an earth which comes from the Vérone area (Italie). This earth was originally harvested in peat or lignite deposits. Because of its poor resistance to light it was replaced in the nineteenth century by pigments based on calcined oxides.

Noir de Rome is earth ground lignite from Verona in Italy. This pigment has been used since the XV century.

Noir de vigne is a black iron oxide that reproduces fairly faithfully the original color of the real black of Vine, obtained by the charring of branches of vines collected during the pruning of the vines. Warning : this pigment is not intended to be smoothed (risk of marks called "fusées").

For a long time, and fortunately for our animal friends, it is now obtained from iron oxide and plant-based charcoal. The name remained in order to signify the resemblance of the color.
